{hacking,music,electronics,radio}

Here are the toots from my Mastodon account. If you’re into ham radio and technology this is a great inclusive server with an awesome mascot called Alex.

It's Alex! A soft brown mastodon holding a handheld radio in their right hand and carrying a blue bag over their shoulder

A great and funny illustration of selection bias (and probably some other things)

#TIL: /dev/serial/by-id/ has persistently named serial devices on #Linux.

Perfect if your serial ports keep swapping over when you reboot or plug/unplug things, just use these in places of /dev/ttyUSB$no.

I don’t know when this magical feature appeared but it beats messing with dev rules. 💻📻

Fascinating stuff on NASA TV: https://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/#public Not much to see, but the prep it takes to open the hatches is impressive!

This weekend I build a cheap Chinese CNC engraver. I don’t have any specific uses for it in mind (maybe making some PCBs eventually) but fancied making something a mechanical, and the total cost was under £150.

The thing didn’t come with instructions, but I found some for a similar unit and I guess it took about 6 hours to build.

I think adding limit switches is a must and to do anything more than simple engraving will need a spindle upgrade, but so far, so fun!

Seeing a lot more FT8 v2 activity now. I wonder if this is because of the FT8 roundup contest.

https://pskreporter.info/cgi-bin/pskstats.pl shows a lot more RC5 users than the other RC versions, which is great.
