{hacking,music,electronics,radio}

Here are the toots from my Mastodon account. If you’re into ham radio and technology this is a great inclusive server with an awesome mascot called Alex.

It's Alex! A soft brown mastodon holding a handheld radio in their right hand and carrying a blue bag over their shoulder

Ordered various DIN connectors to try to hook the TNC-Pi to either my 706 or ft818.

I have a lot of random connectors but nothing that fits. I might also try using my data mode cables if I can work out what sort of adapters to make.

In case you missed it, WSJT-X

2.1.2 was released:

https://sourceforge.net/p/wsjt/mailman/message/36861774/

The release was hot on the heels of 2.1.1:

https://sourceforge.net/p/wsjt/mailman/message/36860942/

There’s not a lot of interesting content in the release notes but it’s always worth upgrading:

It looks like the ARRL’s $5 shipping works for international orders.

Maybe a good time to buy those heavy things which would otherwise attrack super expensive international shipping!

Spent my weekend messing about on mountains in Snowdonia. Had an excellent time with a great snowy wild camp and some icy scrambling.

Lost a UV-5R in the snow but I hope someone else will pick it up and have some fun with with it.

Me! Scrambling up a rocky mountain with a snowy field of scree behind.

Gylder Fawr and Bristly Ridge during sunrise. This is a fairly prominent rocky outcrop with snow and ice covering most of it.

Had fun at the club’s construction completion. Some interesting bits and bobs on display and a good bit of catching up and talking shop.

Having a quick play with my nanoVNA before heading out. This thing is cool! Especially coupled with the nanovna-saver software.

It’s really fun being able to measure filters so easily. #hamradio #amateurradio

Can anyone recommend a decent howto on using WSJT-X with an SDR (AirSpy ideally) on Linux?

Nice, a new RadCom plus issue:

https://rsgb.org/main/blog/front-page-news/2019/10/30/radcom-plus-vol-4-no-1/

Not sure there has been one of these released since I joined.

It’s a shame the subscription process is such a farce though. The email called it quick and easy and the link took me to the RSGB shop, (which looks like it’s from 1990), and then I had to supply a load of details to subscribe!

Just found out the TNC Pi Kit I ordered got sent back to the US.

Apparantly I failed to pay a customs charge I was notified of. I guess the local post office managed to lose the card because it definitely didn’t arrive at my office. Grrrr!

Recently, I’ve been playing with chezmoi ( https://github.com/twpayne/chezmoi) as a way to manage my shell/editor config files, and I’ve re-architected my old zsh framework to use the more modern zplug plugin manager ( https://github.com/zplug/zplug).

I’ve been storing my configs in both github ( https://github.com/mattfoster/dotfiles) and keybase, and finding it a great way to keep home/work configs up to date as I make changes.

I have a bunch of random projects and scripts laying about that I’ll merge/add as I get time.
