Here are the toots from my Mastodon account. If you’re into ham radio and technology this is a great inclusive server with an awesome mascot called Alex.

It's Alex! A soft brown mastodon holding a handheld radio in their right hand and carrying a blue bag over their shoulder

I went for a lunchtime run with a LILYGO T-Beam in my pocket running LoRa APRS tracker firmware ( https://github.com/richonguzman/LoRa_APRS_Tracker) on 70cm! It worked surprisingly well despite being a bit uncomfortable.

I flashed another LILYGO thingy with the I-gate firmware ( https://github.com/richonguzman/LoRa_APRS_iGate) and attached that to my antenna at home.

Overall pretty cool and cheap, and worth trying on the car.

I found https://lora-aprs.live/ pretty useful while setting things up.

A small rectangular circuit board with a display on the left an antenna attached vertically to the middle and a couple of visible modules on the right (a GPS and one marked LILYGO). The display reads M0PUH-7 and had a date, time and battery voltage, among other details.

A screenshot of a section of a map from aprs.fi. The map shows a short route along a canal, tracking M0PUH-7 on the 3rd December 2024.

Late to the party with this one, but K1JT has released WSJT-X 2.7.0-rc6 (and rc5 a bit ago) #hamradio #ft8.

rc5 added “SuperFox” mode, which seems to use closed binaries (I’ve not closely followed the discussions about this), there are some interesting snippets about keys and digital signatures in the notes.
